I
have had a camera since I was 11. The first time I ever took
it into nature was at the 6th grade overnight at the YMCA camp
in Estes Park, CO. I took grainy and fuzzy pictures of the mountains,
pictures I still have in a photo album on my bookshelf.
I
dabbled in photography in high school and always had my point-and-shoot
with me on vacations. But it wasn't until 2004 when I lived
in a quaint neighborhood in Denver that I fell in love with
nature photography. I
began taking regular walks in my neighborhood and many of my
neighbors had beautiful gardens. I photographed the flowers
that lived in them.
In
the last six years I have learned a lot about photography since.
I find I learn by trial and error, by being in the field and
sensing when the light is right or how to frame a shot creatively.
My
passion as a nature photographer is to illuminate nature's soul.
Nature speaks to us if we're willing to listen. She speaks through
the flowers, the trees, the wind, and the water. And She is
present in every single manifestation of herself, from the glorious
water lily to the decaying leaf. Wandering a trail or a park
and finding the small details that shine a light on Nature's
soul is joyous.
